There are so many ways to be part of CarePartners Foundation’s work in Buncombe County. Volunteer opportunities include working at the thrift store or estate sales area, serving in the gift shop that’s located in the Rehabilitation hospital, or helping to plan one of the many special events that happen throughout the year.
Many people find volunteering directly with hospice patients to be exceptionally rewarding. Volunteers complete an on-line application or submit a hard copy to Hospice Volunteer Services. Applicants are screened, interviewed for appropriateness, motivation, emotional maturity, ensuring they possess skills necessary to support the mission of hospice. Candidates receive training materials for the self-paced orientation and/or class room training completing the intensive 16 hour training requirement. Specialty training is also available to advance volunteer opportunities within the scope of volunteer service practice. Volunteer register with the Volunteer Services Office by completing required ‘personnel’ records, including health screening, confidentiality, role definition – description(s), core competencies, volunteer interest survey, orientation verification, consumer release background check consent, OSHA safety training, and infection control standards training.
Volunteers are held to the standards of non-paid staff. Training includes supervised shadowing of a seasoned volunteer mentor. Once new volunteers complete training, demonstrating competencies they are assigned to volunteer roles suited for their area of knowledge and comfort to support organizational needs. Volunteers are required to complete annual performance evaluations, competencies and annual required training to maintain active volunteer status. Volunteers are also required to submit documentation verifying volunteer service activity recording all volunteer activity via CareWatch.
Volunteer Services are governed by organizational policy and procedures. To volunteer or learn more, contact CarePartners Hospice Volunteer Services at 828.277.4800 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also learn more at www.carepartners.org.
