“We wanted to do something that was different and new and it was important to us that it was also focused on health and wellness. The beauty of dragon boat racing is that even non-athletes can participate, and it truly is a lot of fun,” said Scott Buchanan, CarePartners Foundation CEO.
The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on teams.
Buchanan states that “All the proceeds from this event will benefit vulnerable people in our communities. CarePartners Foundation helps strengthen hospice, programs for grieving children, and support for fragile seniors, among so many other services. Teams can even designate the money they raise for those causes closest to their hearts.”
With origins dating back 2,300 years, dragon boat racing is the most fun, a unique cultural event featuring adrenaline-pumping action. Teams race in authentic 46-foot-long, Hong Kong-style dragon boats. Traditionally made in the Pearl River Delta of China’s Guangdong Province, dragon boats were originally raced competitively between villages. They rave about the excitement, friendly competition, and community spirit surrounding the sport.
Never paddled a boat?
No problem! Our team of experts will show you everything you need to know. Your team will have fun laughing and learning together. All ages, skill levels, and physiques perfect their stroke and timing for the ultimate teamwork experience!
People love it – the thrill, the teamwork, the adrenaline, the costumes, the interaction in the boat – everything. People are drawn to this sport, to each other in a setting that exemplifies human connectivity on a level comparable to nothing else. People who never thought of themselves as athletes can thrive in a dragon boat and people who are athletes discover a challenging alternative to general sports.
